It's the whole lemming mentality. I think it's just a fad that kids will eventually grow out of. I don't think they realize how foolish they look/sound/act.

What's acting black? What's acting white? If acting black means being ignorant , slang speaking, gangsters and acting white means wanting to better yourself and get a good job to provide for yourself and family then that's STUPID!! Why do all these sterotypes portray being a black as negative and being a white as positive (or a turncoat if your a black). It's because for so long, whites had the advantages, education, wealth and power that blacks longed for. Now that we can finally get it, some refuse to and call those that do try "acting white". Some whites even say blacks are "acting white" by getting an education or "speaking slang". What's wrong with slang? Isn't this America where English is the main language but all other language is accepted? So Slang is a branch off from American English...but isn't Americanized English originally a branch off from British English? That's why it's called ENGLISH cuz it's from ENGLAND!! Why isn't it called Americanese or something like that? And so what if blacks have there own style that white people find fascinating and want to imitate! Why is that called "acting black"? So if whites listen to rap, hip-hop, R&B or try to rap, it's called "acting black" cuz we've held that genre down for years. So if blacks start listening to rock, emo, and heavy metal it's "acting white"? People need to stop throwing stones at each other and just accept that this is America...full of different cultures that are special separate and together to form the USA!! Can't we all just get along and stop categorizing?!

It depends on where you grew up. For example I was born in an area of my city where I was a minority. My friends were all of colour (africans, jamacians, guyanese, indian, chinese, etc.). I heard reggae music growing up. Indian music, soca, calypso. This is the music I enjoy today. Brings back happy memories of childhood. Although I have appreciation for rock and dance and alternative music as well. But I don't "act Black" or anything else. I know what you mean, those people are just uncomfortable in their own skins. They need to be something that they think is acceptable in their own situations. It's hilarious really. I love it when some white chick is trying to talk with a Jamacian accent (if they aren't actually Jamacian). It's really embarassing, to everyone but them!! And black people that act white are just as ridiculous. They are trying to be the most annoying type of white person there is. White people HATE that kind of white person (country club, money spilling out of *** kind..). Anyway, PEOPLE, WHO YOU ARE IS OKAY. JUST BE A HUMAN AND NOT A COLOUR!! (yes, I'm Canadian..)

There is no such thing as acting white and acting black. This is another example of how America still has racism so so sad. Beacuse I lived in Turkey moved to Md, US lived in a good mixed hood does that mean I act white? This is a topic that people should never think about , but I think enviroment plays a role.

They want to be accepted by the group they are with at the moment.
Some whites will act black around black friends, when no other whites are around. And then act white when no blacks are around. They just don't believe the other race is capable of accepting them just as they are.
Too bad!

I think you'll find most people act the way the feel inside. So if someone feels, as you say "black or white" they will act in the way that they think that type of person acts. So the real question is, why does it bug you?

First of all it is all about your surroundings. If you live in an Urban Community where most of the people are of a different nationality, are you going talk to yourself? Unless your a physco, your going to make friends...sometimes friends pick up each others mannerisms (dictionary.com).

The issue is not RACE it's CULTURE. Some people identify with different cultures for various reasons; beliefs, food, music, women, men...it's about personal choice. And that is one of the great things about being American. We can be whatever we chose.

TRUE some people OVERDUE it. But who am I to judge?

I can't really say that I 'act' a certain race or ethic group. I love Mexican food, Ethiopian music, football, karate, Tai food, reggae, jazz, skateboarding and swimming.... what race do I act ?

Live your life kid.

one word Influence. Either from friends, the community and or environment, it's a case of fitting in and blending with everyone one else, besides there's no law that says white people have to act white and black people have to act black, that would makethis place so boring, i like mixed personalities and behaviours don't you?

Although I really dislike generalizations like this when it comes to race...for example, how do you exactly "act black" or "act white".... I will tell you that behavior usually has alot to with the environment you are in, the company that you keep and the way you were raised.

People act how they want to, individuality makes us who we are. What exactly is acting "black" or "white"? Race is not a stereotype.
