This one goes out to all you fans who find it funny when a driver wrecks and have the audacity to cheer when you don't even know if they are okay. These guys are human beings and they could be hurt or even dead. Case in point... when Dale Sr hit the wall at Daytona the last time... it was the last time he ever did anything and you all cheered. I am embarassed to be in the same group as you are.
NASCAR fans... whatever, you belong in ancient Rome watching the coliseum games.

In the case of the person who hates Smoke... You don't even know him. Don't you think hate is a strong emotion to feel towards someone you don't even know?

It's one thing to be "drawn" to an accident (as said above) and another thing to CHEER! I was glued to the tv and watched Sr.'s accident over and over, but did I cheer? Hell no! We lost one of the best drivers of all time in one of these little accidents!

I wouldn't even cheer if Kurt Busch hit the wall & I can't stand that guy (no, I don't know him, but I know enough of him)!

It's pathetic for people who don't like Nascar to say ignorant things about wrecks or cheer if they occur, but for a Nascar fan to do it it's a downright disgrace!!!

I don't cheer right away in the case of a horrific crash I do wait for the window net to drop, then if it is a driver I dislike, hell ya I jump up and down cheering, clapping & yelling obscenities. Nobody sits and wishes a driver to die, it's reflex when someone you dislike crashes to jump up and yell, it's adrenilion it's excitement.

By the way when Sr. died nobody cheered, it was complete silence and many tears were shed that day. A day that will go down in history. RIP Sr.!

The crashes are as much a part of NASCAR as the driving, if the whole race was green flag racing it wouldn't be very exciting at all, there would be no tempers flaring, no rubbing or bumping (may cause a crash) I love NASCAR and I love to see the crack ups! I was at MIS this past June and sat 2 rows off the track in turn 4, Tony Stewart hit the wall, right smack dab in front of me it was fantastic (sorry but he is my least favorite driver) I wanted to climb the fence and shake his hand...it was my dream come true!

I don't belong in ancient Rome, I belong right here in the stands with 99% of the other race fans watching and cheering for our drivers and yes, enjoying a good wreck!

You're right, it's horrible that some people cheer when a driver wrecks. It's not funny, it's scary. You would think that people wouldn't do that after Dale Sr.'s death. I mean, since Sr.'s death there have been many safety things added & are mandatory. But it is still possible for someone to get hurt or die. Like in 2004, when Junior was in that corvette race & lost control of the car. I saw that crash on t.v & it was horrible! That was a huge fire! Thankfully Junior was able to get out. But I completely agree with you. Some people are just heartless jerks & they should be ashamed for cheering when a driver wrecks!

It is hard to believe that people do that. Last year at the Oct. race at Lowe's motor speedway the people sitting in front of us were Jr. fans. When Jeff Gordon hit the wall almost right in front of us, they were yelling, cheering and
celebrating, it was awful.

Like you said they don't even care if the driver is seriously injured or killed. When Dale, Sr. hit that wall at first it didn't seem like it would be that bad so you just never know.

It is real live humans out there and even though there is a danger and they accept the risk, they don't go out there to die.

Those that act like that at a race in any series cannot be called fans. Sure wrecks are going to happen, but first and foremost one needs to find out if the driver is all right. Applauding a wreck, however, should never be something a fan does. That person should be escorted out of the track for 'actions detrimental to auto racing' and not invited back.

i agree with steffys answer. who the hell are you and dixie to pass judgement on NASCAR fans. so dixie, you say since i'm not a fan of ALL the drivers that i'm not a true fan? you hear that everyone, we're not allowed to have favorite drivers now or we're not true fans. give me a break! you and dixie both need to get off your high horses. NO ONE wants to see a driver get hurt, but crashes are a part of the sport. and yes when someone i don't like wrecks, i hold my breath until i see the window net come down, and then i cheer, like millions of other fans. and we are just as big of fans as you are. and another thing, you ask the guy who says he hates tony stewart how he can have such a strong emotion about someone he doesn't know, well i'll ask you the same question. from the questions that you ask it's ovious you're in love with stewart, so how can YOU have such a strong emotion about someone you don't know?

Well, to tell you the truth, I laugh and cheer immensely when Tony Stewart smacks the wall. I hate him!

These guys know racing is a dangerous sport. If you didn't have drivers to cheer for and drivers to hate, what would be the point of watching?

I've been to races and haven't seen what you say. Of course, they were regional NASCAR. Maybe because the guys were "local". But, when a driver gets out of a damaged car and we see that the person is ok, of course one gives a cheer. Just like for a pitcher who leaves a baseball game. It's encouragement and, in the case of NASCAR, relief that they are ok.

Because people are dumb and think racing is all about the wrecks, kinda like hockey is all about the fights. There are soooo much more to both sports than those attributes. Just because the tend to happen a lot doesn't make it the point of the sport.

actually crashing hard, not funny! getting spun at oh say.........bristol, or martinsville, or road course, humerous, now blowing an engine or problems on pit row, running out of gas I cheer and cheer loudly when it's a ford or dodge. I just don't like ford or dodge, nothing against the drivers, there are really cool drivers that drive fords and dodges, but I can not stand ford or dodge. Therefore I cheer ford and dodge troubles.
