It costs quite a bit to live near the beach because of many different factors. One thing is that insurance is a killer when living near the beach especially in hurricane prone towns. Water damage to the house as well as repair costs must be taken into consideration as well. Also living by the beach is an appeal thing nowadays. Like you said, more and more people want to have waterfront view and so the cost of living on the beach is much more expensive. I have no idea why most people like the beach..maybe because it's beautiful and a good peaceful gettaway from polution and so forth..who knows.

Now??? I have always found beach property is far more expensive than inland even by 10 miles because it was the beach. It has only increased with the economy like everything else. When did people not want to live by the beach?? I have seen hundreds of surfers of all ages all my life who would give their left arm to be closer to the beach. I doubt it will ever change either. Good luck!!

Well the space is limited. One more thing about those beach places is the insurance to keep them there too. Many times you can't afford the insurance on say a 300K house. It is outrageous for flood and hurricane and other such insurance.

The veiw is great and the breeze is too. The sound of the waves is so relaxing. I live right across fromt he beach and wouldn't have it any other way.
