if you have XP then kinda... anything else requires it. You can use the restore feature or even go back to a specific point in time as long as you have the computer set-up to take a "snapshot" on occasion.

Yes there are several ways to wipe a hard drive without a Windows CD, but simply Format C: is not one of them. I like to use the Windows 98 boot disk which is available online for free (this is where format C: will work). I also like to use the the hard drive manufacturers disk management tool. Every hard drive manufacturer has one available on their website. There are other 3rd party software programs designed just for this purpose such as Partition Magic. You can download a trial version of Partition Magic for free, it is a 30 day trial or something like that. For the inexperienced I recommend the Windows 98 bootdisk. You download this program and place it on a floppy and boot from the disk. If you are not familiar with using the 98 bootdisk I suggest you google a "using a windows 98 bootdisk tutorial". OR the following is a great site for the bootdisk download and a user tutorial. Good luck.

You can try my computer>explore>Local Disk (C)>format but it may not let you do that; you may have to do it with the Windows Reinstallation CD, which will format the drive and install windows again. Or, go to Run, type Command, when the prompt comes type F disk.

As long as you know that formatting the drive and even removing the partition is not a secure or sanitized erase, then yes, you can fdisk the drive or format the drive at a command prompt with a bootable device.

There's many software programs that'll gladly do this for you. However if you're serious about wiping a drive of all information that'll make in impossible to recover data of any kind by any type of software program, then I recommend BCWipe. It's DoD approved and it uses several different methods/standards of which it'll do it by.

yes. restart the comp and go to your bios (setup) i think it should be like F2. in there somewhere there should be an option that say boot to command prompt, or somthing like that, use that option and restart your computer. when it starts it should got to something like this C: type "deltree C" (without the quotes) and it should ask you quick format or full format. select your option and your HD should be clean
