Well, just so you know, my son was breech at 32 weeks. He turned head down before I went into labor(38 weeks), and I had a smooth delivery. And most babies who are born breech, turn shortly before labor. At the stage of pregnancy your wife is in, it's to be expected that they move around.
But, if the baby stays breech, her OB may suggest a external cephalic version, where they apply pressure to her to try to manually turn the baby head down. If you'd like to read up on it(just in case!) go here:

Congratulations on the baby!!

Usually there is no concern yet. Some babies don't turn until just before delivery! If you have concerns, ask the doc next time you go or even just give them a call if you're really concerned. Never be afraid to call the doc or nurse with any questions you have. That's what they are there for and what you are paying them for! Don't ever feel any question is too stupid or dumb...they've heard them all and probably over and over again, and if you have the question, you deserve an answer.

There are some measures that the doctor can do to "help" the baby turn; however, even if this is done, it doesn't guarantee that the baby will stay that way. It can flip back over again.

If the baby stays breech, it can be delivered that way; however, it is a much trickier delivery and you need to have someone who has done many of them and is comfortable doing it. Most doctors now will just do a c/section though. Every now and then you'll find one that will do the breech delivery (but as I said you want someone that has done many of them and is comfortable doing it. I know the thought of a c/section is scary, but it would be better to be safe than sorry because the breech delivery can have so many complications for the baby if not done correctly).

Best of luck to all of you!

nope not yet your wife still has 9 weeks left of pregnancy, and that's 9 weeks to get baby right side up, some doctors will turn the baby by hand if they are starting to get concerned. Also my best friend's mom told me that BOTH of her children were in the breech position until she was in labor, and then it was like magic they flipped DURING labor! Coming out the way they were supposed to! So no worried, your OB will tell you when to start being concerned, it probably means that you don't have to have any worries that the baby will arrive anytime soon (like EARLY) and so it's all good. Just relax!

well the initial response would be Yes you should be concerned. But the good news is that your baby will most likely change positions. Just tell your wife to turn to the left (lying down) and stay there for about 3o minutes.

My best advice would be is to request another ultra sound and have her lie in a certain position the baby should move....if not then that clearly means that your baby has desceneded...and she might have to go through a c-section. All sugery is dangerous but these dr's today will not let any harm come to your wife nor your child!!!

INFACT....I am surprised that your ob/gyn hasn't suggested regular ultra sounds to monitor the babys' position!

Remember she is 31 weeks only and she has 9 more weeks to go... the baby can change position at any time.

Please let me know how it goes or if you want to email me go right ahead.

Good LUck and Congrats in Advance!!!

There's a process they can do where they try to turn the baby but I've heard it's quite painful. Not only that but there's a good chance the placenta will tear and doctor's will have to do an emergency C-section. Even if they turn the baby, since's it's been in that breach position a while, it may turn right back on its own. I opted out of that procedure and had to have a C-section with my son. The healing part takes a while but they really aren't that bad. I was in and out of surgery in about an hour and a half.

It's not unusual for a baby to be breach at this point. I think all moms go thru that at some point. My 2nd daughter was breach and decided to go into labor. Needless to say I didn't have a choice but to have a c-section, but just to put ya mind at ease I actually found it easier to have a c-section. I had both of my girls via c-section and was able to get up and move around w/out painkillers within 1 hour after having them.
Should there be a complication, just pray! Each and every baby is different and they make a special entrance into this world.

You shouldn't be terribly concerned. My son was in a breech position when the doctor tried to perform a version (to turn my baby around) but given that I was destined to have a stubborn Leo, my son chose instead to stick his little arms & legs out in protest, "hell no I'm coming into the world the easy way!"

And he did indeed come into this world through a Caesarean section, a scheduled one, in fact, so I could have chosen to have either a Leo or a Virgo (his birthday is August 20).

I'm terrified of needles, and had to have a spinal tap that day, but it was one of the most unforgettable & precious experiences of my life!

Incidentally, my son will be 21 this year & he's a firefighter! :)

when i was 34 weeks, my baby turn into the correct (head down) position. So, it's still a possibility. When the baby gets too big, he won't be able to move around, so it kind of depends on how big the baby is or if there is enough room. Good luck! There is really no way of telling what the baby will do- but I think there is still hope.

No, that's what C-sections and doctors are for. Don't be worried, this is supposed to be a happy time in your life. You, yourself and your wife, have no control over how your baby decides to come into this world. Just trust that your kid will find a way out ok. Tons of babies are born breached, and it's not a big deal. Worry about more important things, later, like dating and getting licenses. :) Congrats!
