it seems to be human nature, it's very sad but true.

no one is safe from having thoughts of cheating which doesn't always mean they will act on it but the thoughts WILL be there.

it's very sad...

Yes, insecurity is the answer I think.
It seems men cheat more for the opportunity while women cheat to fill an emotional void, although I know that doesn't apply to everyone.
However, you always hear the bad stuff and never the good stuff, so let me just say that I personally feel there are just some types of people out there who have it in them to cheat - whether they are happy or not, just as there are other types of people who would never in a million years do that to someone, even if they were miserable in the relationship.
Monogamy is an active choice and unfortunately, it is a choice that very few people respect anymore.

Some think the grass is greener on the other side. But most I think is because of curiosity and sometimes there may be something missing in that relationship, and when someone else may pay attention to them a little more than the partner they desire the attention and one thing leads to another and before you know it..." Huge Mistake". You can't take it back and can't change it and usually loose a good thing over it! Were human, and in today's society, it's been made to easily to get in and get out.

insecurity and self loathing...when one doesn't have any self respect or regards for another person, how else can one put himself in another persons' shoes? that i feel comes from past experiences where one has been cheated, hurt, lied to, disrespected, so that becomes the "normal pattern" of how all relationships seem to be..

What the hell are you talking about? I've been married for 25 years, and I've never cheated on my wife.

For me, when I cheated, it was about validation. Validation that I was sexy and desirable, and that it wasn't just him that thought so. When my boyfriend cheated on his ex-wife, he said was purely for the sex and because he could. The opportunity arose and he took it.

They're not getting what they want from the person they're supposed to be with. Could be someone's fault, could be
they're just not compatible. It's natural to look around, but
if someone's happy, they won't drift.
