As long as you send them something, they will not persue a lawsuit. If you can only send the 20 dollars a month, they will leave you alone.

Medical bills are not automatically covered by medicaid..regardless of income level. If you did not pre-qualify for medicaid insurance, then your medical billls *may* not be paid, depending on the policies of your state. Each state has considerable laxitude on what it will cover and what it will not..
The more conservative states cover less.. the more generous states cover more.
IF you have been sued, then its likely that medicaid did not cover the bills.. in fact.. you probably were informed of this 6 to 12 months ago.
Face it: No hospital, collection agency, etc.. rushes into the courtroom.. They send you letters. They call you (or try). They will offer you ways to pay them.. The reason you were sued is that you did not respond, and did not pay.
You have 2 options now: Find a way to pay, or bankruptcy.
If you have the income to pay them. and there are not a lot of other collectors out there waiting.. I suggest you contact them, (BY MAIL ONLY) and offer a payment schedule. If you do not.. consult an attorney licensed in your state for bankruptcy options.
The laws on bankruptcy have changed. You need more than ever the advice of an attorney licensed in your state. If you don't have one, contact your state or local bar association for a referral.

Find out why Medicaid did not cover it. It may be due to an error that is easily correctable. If you can't resolve the problem, then get advice from a lawyer.

Did you make sure that Medicaid was going to covered it before relying of them? I suggest you make a few calls to them and investigate further., in most states, child labor is NOT covered. This could be an exception, but i doubt it. Your next step is to call the collection agency and make payment plans with them before they start to report your delinquency to the credit reports. Once there your credit is lost forever.

Get a lawyer. Set up payment arrangements. Sue medicaid or refile your claim. Peace.

Call a lawyer right away. You may be able to claim bankruptcy. You may have to divert your assets to family members first.

Pay them. Get a job and pay your bills. That is how it works.
