I'm past my due date now and the baby is very active. He's still lying sideways. Dr will not induce until the 31st. I'm in a fair bit of discomfort and just wondered if anyone else is in the same boat.

Most of the time when a doc gives you a due date, it's an estimate that is based on your period cycle. Not everyone is the same so that means you usually have about 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after the due date and you are still within the "norm".

Since the baby is still active, that is good. Keep track of that and if you notice a decrease in the activity, do not hesitate to call the doc as soon as you notice this. He/she will probably order a stress test on the baby (nothing too bad, you just lay with a monitor on that will give the baby's heart rate and the intensity of your contractions...you will have a medication given to you through an IV that will imitate contractions so they can see how the baby will react during delivery). This might actually start your labor too, so they will probably tell you to bring along your things, just in case (if they don't, just leave them in the car, just in case).

One thing that was a "wives tale" was the nipple stimulation test. Yes, it really used to be a test they would use and some doctors will use it today, but not many anymore because of the medications available to give you contractions. You can do it yourself or hubby/boyfriend might enjoy it too :-) It's supposed to make your uterus contract and may begin your labor. Before doing this I would check with your doctor and see if it would be ok to use.

If you've not been banned from sex, some swear by that also to bring on contractions. Some swear by walking (if the doc is allowing you to be up and about).

Never do anything or take anything without first checking with your doctor or nurse first. You can read the advice you get on these websites but you have to be careful before doing it. Use your head and check it out first (preferably with your doc or nurse!).

Never be afraid to call them and ask them any questions you have. That is what they are there for and what you pay them for.

You can also take this time to just try to relax. Get as much sleep as you can, stay cool, and go for lunches with friends and family. It may be awhile before you can do it again once the little one comes.

Best wishes!

Good luck. Today is my due date. I have been having painful contractions for 2 weeks now but they won't induce or break my waters till I am 2 weeks past my due date. They even did a membrane strip and nothing.

I wasn't but I went longer with my fifth pregnancy than any others which is past 36 weeks, I made it to 38weeks and had an 11.2pound baby boy! I felt that I was over due. At any rate, I would really advise you to try to sleep! Honestly you will be so glad that you did! And when you aren't sleeping try to visit friends and treat yourself while you still can! Good Luck!!

i changed into 2 weeks previous due with both one in all my children. the acceptable component i visit claim to do to bypass the time is spend as a lot time with your older newborn doing things you may no longer get to do for a lengthy time period once the child comes. My oldest changed into 3 a million/2 and on the day before my 2d changed into born we went puddle splashing. Why? no longer because I loved getting muddy yet as a results of the indisputable fact that is what he needed to do and that i had a lot thrilling being stupid that I didnt understand 4 hours had creeped by using. I also went for a pedicure and a nail clipping and had my hair done. some thing to bypass the time enables alot. I also made countless matches of clothing on my stitching gadget to placed on after the child changed into born yet before I were given make into my usual outfits. ( I under no circumstances needed to be certain my maternity outfits again)
