I think Starbucks is SO expensive when you add up several purchases in your head.. I mean, going a couple times a week .. (and then adding it up at the end of the mo.) is like buying a new pair of shoes or donating a nice amount of money to a shelter.. Does anyone agree?

I am absolutely amazed at the herds of people spending 5 times the value of a cup of coffee and a tiny piece of pastry at Starbucks.

I know people who are flat broke that spend $40/week at Starbucks. I just don't understand why.

Imagine if they put all that money in their 401K plan...

I would have agreed with you up until about year ago until I found out the following :

1. They have a good product (s)
2. Excellent customer service (with exception of wait sometimes); how many coffee shops will replace a product -(even days later)
3. Have the lowest turnover in all of the service industry because they are one of the very few companies that offer health care even to it's part time workers.
4. Pay their coffee growers in developing countries more than others in the industry and work to rebuild their economies or raise the standard of living for people in those areas.

So the cost of these things is passed on to the consumer. So if you like the coffee buy it, if you don't then put your money elsewhere.

...P.S. I've never worked in a Starbucks either - saw one of those network news shows do a report and read a few articles on Starbucks business planning.

Well, I like going to Starbucks but the thing is, I am not addicted to coffee and I only go there when I am meeting friends. So, after every month, my Starbucks expenses are generally not that high.

The key issue here is self-control. Be in control of the situation and when that happens, you do not have to worry about the Starbucks related expenses you make on a monthly basis.

No..

I've read a couple of these statements... and I'm wondering where the hell they live..

Four dollars for a tall? Get real.. I don't even have a job.. I goto starbucks twice a day, sometimes even 3. Depending on taxes, and my location, I pay about $3.50/ drink.

I love starbucks, and I love the atmosphere with lightweight, open-minded employees.. I love their coffee, and I enjoy speaking to people which makes it a great networking location.

The downside? When it rains, I can't go outside and smoke.. But, that only promotes my cut-down.

Not to be rude or anything-- cus its worth an asking.. If you'd like to stop going to Starbucks, you're welcome to donate to me.

Contact me for information.

Good day, - Rob

:)~

i agree.. they have a monopoly on fancy little places with smooth music, dim lights, relaxing atmosphere, coffee aroma, and EXPENSIVE food and coffee... its about 4 bucks for a tall (decpetive name for small) caramel macciato... times that by once a day, 6 times a week, 4 weeks a month, 12 months a year... think of all that MONEY... im gonna open a starbucks

Yes, but if you are addicted to coffee like I am, then you shell it out and you don't care. I figure it's no more expensive than smoking, which I think is a much more disgusting habit.

I agree. $4 for coffee is too much.

It would be for me. I can get free coffee at work if I want it, which I usually don't.
