On Monday i go to court to be sentenced. And the minimal sentence is 1 year in state prison and the max is 15 years. My lawyer says i will probley not get more then 5. Other then this time I have never been arested or been to jail. I have been on house arested since i plead guilty so i do not know what to expect. What will prison be like. Please give me any tips or a idea of what it will be like. I really want to go into this kind of knowing what to expect. I am told in the state jail you spend about 15-20 hours in your cell and the cells are 8x10. What will this be like?

I personally don't know what's it's like in prison. But my husband is there. He's locked down (IN his cell) 22 hours every day. It's differant everywhere but where he is right now it's just a tiny cell with bunk beds and a sink and a toilet that him and someother guy have to share and I dont think they even have a window. The time they come out to use the phone vaires from day to day and becuase of my work schedule I only get to ttalk to him once every 3 days. All calls are collect and they can only use the phone when the officers give them permission. I'm not 100% sure how visitation is going to work because I'm on probation and I'm not even sure that my PO will allow me to go see him. I hope this help you some. If you have more questoins feel free to ask and I'll tell you what I know. But anyway good luck.

Definitely watch "Lock Up." And a lot of prisons are different. You will, however, see a lot of cliques, almost like high school. People will be sticking mostly with people of their own ethnicity. So keep that in mind. And do not act weak. One show of weakness in prison, and you're dead. All of the inmates will pounce and some might even ask you to perform some certain acts on a certain body part for them. I suggest that you read while you're there. Believe it or not, a lot of prisoners end up becoming extremely smart while they're in jail, and plus, you wouldn't want all of that time to go to waste, would you? Maybe you can study law and get yourself out of there (this actually happened to someone I know!) And you might also watch a lot of television, and if you do, stick to some helpful shows, like maybe Oprah? Or maybe the news. And although I am not a strong believer in God, you should really choose a religion and praise someone while you're in there because studies have shown that people who believe in a god tend to be happier. Research a few religions while you're in there if you want and pick one out! And don't worry, before you know it, you'll be out of there. I know it's prison, but good luck anyway.

You don't mention which state you'll be a guest of. 3 hots and a cot is a tuff road. For your 1st offense you would have to do a major crime to get more than 5 years. In Indiana you get one day credit for each good day served so a 5 yr sentence will be served in 2 1/2 yrs. You should get credit from the time you were incarcerated for this offense including the house arret time. Check with your attorney about this and I would ask him to request a two yr. sentence for your first offense.

Once you are inside, just keep your head down, walk the line and do your own time. If you do not wish to return, I don't recommend being too curious about the various goings on of the other inmates. If you look like you have noticed something you are way more likely to find trouble.

Good luck man, this is NOT the end of the world, it only feels like it. Start right away on any educational and rehab opprotunities they offer to you. They are good for reading material which you will likely be happy to have and can give you a head start on your limited opportunities you'll realize after your release.

Make sure you take Jesus Christ with you. I have a friend who is getting out of federal prison next Tuesday after 1 1/2 years. He says his faith in God is what is getting him through it. God Bless.

Try to catch an episode of "Lock Up" on MSNBC this weekend. It takes you inside prisons and shows you what they're like.

I agree with trdy_blue. There is nothing you can't handle without Jesus. Just try to be yourself and don't try to act tough they can see right through it. Take care in there i wish you the best.

Lock yourself in your room with nothing but a bed (an uncomfortable one).
