The dim witted boob who said you have to have the right look doesn't have a clue. Take a closer look at the television shows and films you watch... there is every possible look imaginable represented there each and every day. You don't have to be a beauty queen or a male model. Hell.. look at the Austin Powers films... there you have a dwarf and a fat ugly guy in the same film. Where do you think they found these people? Do you think they said... hey... we need a fat guy bigger than an SUV, and a Dwarf that could fit in the palm of your hand... go out and find some freaks, and send them to "Acting School" for a couple of days so we can make a film. Hell no.... Actors come in all shapes and sizes... they range from drop dead gorgeous to Effing Butt Ugly... they range from children to people in their 90's

Don't let anyone tell you that you need "The Look" because there isn't just one look.

What you need is the ability to act. You need training... and you can get that from a wide variety of sources. You can enroll in college classes... you can enroll in Actors Training Classes and workshops of all kinds (Do a google search for acting schools in your area) or you can go out and do community theater... there isn't a community in this country that doesn't have some form of "Community Theater" and that is a great place to learn... audition for a part (fail a few times) and land yourself a small part... There is always a part that doesn't require an actor with years of experience on his or her resume... take that part... you'll learn the basics by doing.... your fellow actors will help you learn the role, and will support you... get up there on stage and do it... then audition for the next production... land yourself a bigger role....

1. Decide whether you want to be a professional actor (addressed here) or an amateur. If you want to be a professional, read on.

2. Move to a major city. Eventually, New York or Los Angeles will be your destination, but as you build your résumé of experience you can work in other major metropolitan areas that have good theater or film communities.

3. Enroll in acting class. Good actors study their entire lives. To choose a good class, ask trusted, successful professionals for references.

4. Get a headshot (see "How to Get a Headshot," under Related eHows).

5. Compose a résumé of all the work you have done so far. As your body of work grows, drop the less professional work (such as school plays) from your résumé.

6. Send your headshot and résumé with a brief cover letter to all the casting directors and agents in your area. Follow up with postcards every four to six months, updating them on your current acting projects.

7. Read the trade papers regularly: "Backstage," "Dramalogue," "The Ross Reports" and "Variety," as well as online publications such as newenglandfilm.com, as appropriate. Know what is being cast where, and send headshots and notes directly to directors and producers whenever possible, requesting auditions.

8. Always accept invitations to industry events and parties, and meet industry professionals whenever possible. Who you know is extremely important.

9. Persevere.

Tips:
Acting is a tough business; make sure your personality is suited for the ups and downs. If not, amateur theater is also a good way to practice your craft.

Ignore negative clichés about actors and the entertainment business.

I have an excellent resource that you should look for on Half.com or Amazon.com. It is a book called "Acting Professionally" by Robert Cohen. I have the fourth edition, but by now there is most likely a fifth or sixth out. It is worth the money to get it and READ it. It is the Bible for actors.

Recently I heard a famous actor say that the industry is like the old west. There are no rules and everyone is out for themselves. You don't need credentials or training. Mostly it takes persistence and balls. Good looks don't hurt either.

Learning how to use the spell check. You must be able to listen to direction. When Yahoo Answers says use spell check, you should do it.

You'll never get to be an actor if you can't listen to the director.

you can start by either going to an acting/modeling school.. but if you feel you have the talent naturally you can just look up local agencies in your area, they will want some pictures so youll need to take a headshot and probably a couple of body shots. if they like you they will take you and advertisers or casting directors will see the pictures and if they like you they will cast you.

simple as that :)

Move to Hollywood attend an acting school and get as many scenes as and extra in movies or commercials or 30 minute sitcoms. Hopefully if you keep at and believe that you can make it you will reach your goal. :o)
