We can't be; it's too improbable that in all that space another planet wouldn't have created life.
Now whether that life and us will ever meet.... i'm not sure.
Whether if we did meet we'd recognise it as life ..... also not sure of that.
Who's to say that one of the insects on your windscreen wasn't a visitor.
All the movies have fooled us into thinking aliens will either arrive on a man based ship; be in human form or be huge monsterous creatures.
What if its water based; electricity based or looks like a lump of jelly. In that case its not likely to say "hi, fancy going for a bag-a-chips later dude"
ANYWAY........ have you ever considered that we are aliens?
Some of the rocks found in Alaska were from the surface of the Moon and Mars. Who's to say that it wasn't the bactiria from these that sparked life here all those years ago?

There's probably somebody like you in the Andromeda Galaxy asking the same question. Will we ever meet anybody out there? Probably not. But then, try explaining a color TV to somebody from the 3rd century A.D. Who knows what the future holds. Still, I'm glad I live in this day and age and not in the 3rd century. Amazing, there's so much knowledge out there increasing at an exponential rate. If we can survive another 1000 years, even the sky would no longer be the limit.

We are not alone; we have never been alone, nor will we ever be alone. We can't fully fathom just how strange & diverse & novel what those "surprizes" are going to be like that await us in this universe of ours. We are still finding out fings about our own planet that years ago would have sounded like the product of an overactive imagination. Guess we just have to wait & see.

No and Yes. We are not alone, since the universe is so big and there must be billions of planets, some of which are certainly inhabitable. However, since our intelligent neighbors are so far from us, the chance we encounter each other is very very remote, given the speed limit of light.

there is no way that any one with a rational mind will ever dissmiss the possiblilty that we are not alone, only a short while ago there was rudimentary life found on mars. So no we are not, but yes i am. depending on if the question was about the small picture or the big one!!
