the basic little black dress with short sleeves, scoop neckline and two inches above the knees,
black pumps, not heels because you want to feel secure when you dance, no flat shoes, too ugly with that cute of a dress, no open toe shoes,
pearls if you have some, no cheep jewelry,
a small fashion clutch or purse just big enough to hold the essentials, DO NOT show up with that big ugly @ss leather bag you use everyday, leave it in the car,
soft straight hair turned under at ends, no curls,
do not overdo makeup except use red lipstick.
carry yourself with confidence and not *********,
and don't forget to get at least one picture of only you.
have lots of fun, circulate and smile lots of times,
I love weddings

Here are the traditional rules. If the bride is wearing white, you probably shouldn't. Don't get anything fancier than what the bride or bridesmaids will be wearing. A nice sundress or not-too-fancy dress is good, or some dress slacks and a blouse. And try not to wear the bride's colors, or people might mistakenly think you're part of the wedding party.

Really depends how close you are to the person getting married and how excited you are to go. If its a family or a really close friend, dont be afraid to buy a special dress, otherwise wear something you wont mind wearing again. I would recommend a simple dress, because you dont want to be toooo flashy, you arent getting married, but something you can DANCE in! If you just buy a pretty top and a khacki skirt, youd probably look fine as well, if you want to dress down a bit.

HAVE FUN!!

buy something that you can wear again elsewhere, so nothing too too formal or "wedding like".

Weddings are fun with lots of eating and dancing, so buy something that is comfortable, where you can eat a lot and still feel comfortable in it, and where you don't have to worry about dancing with it on (assuming you're female. lol) Also, do you know the colors of the bridesmaids' dresses or what color any 'mother of the bride/groom' plans to wear? Try not to duplicate those colors.

Have fun!

Any nice looking cocktail dress if good. But just dont wear white and dont wear anything thats really flashy its rude to upstage the bride she is suppose to be the one everyone is looking at. Try Macys, JcPennys or any big department stores you can find something nice there.

A cute dress is always better than slacks and a dressy top.
