I think the reason so many people have problems with this concept is: how can any one love you if you cannot love yourself? If only I was richer.... If only I was smarter.... If only I had a better physique.... and so on, ad infinitum. Not only do you have to love yourself, flaws and all, you have to be able to love others...unconditionally. That's the essential meaning of the traditional wedding vows: for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health. I'll love you no matter what.

Too true, that's all I really want. Those other roads are fun as well but nothing compares to love. Never mind the ten points crap for best answer, out of the thousand questions I've answered by far this one is the best. I generally thank people for a good question but this one has touched me so much that I'll be silent for a moment in true appreciation.

When someone takes the other roads, they are giving into what they think makes them happy. Fame makes them want the world to love them. Drugs gives them an excuse to have a pity party. I have encountered so many ppl that know drugs are bad for them but they do them b/c they have fun. Fun for what? Loss of brain function- disgusting ppl. No...they do drugs for the pity party and that's all. Fitting in with society means rising to certain standards, even if those standards are dangerous.
If we think someone doesn't love us it usually means we don't love ourselves. You never know who could love you or not so false interpetation just leads to confusion and self distruction.

Love makes life a happy experience.
Money keeps the loved one happy.
Fame keeps the ego and the loved one's happy too.
Drugs keep you happy when the loved one's are not happy.

Everyone needs to be loved, But they have too learn to love themselves first before their capable of loving or being loved . so I think people choose other paths to find themselves first.

I think everyone wants someone to love them but first you have to love yourself before you can give love away.
