You usually don't get the job until the drug test comes back negative, hence the term "pre-employment drug screen required". There are also jobs and employers that require random and/or post accident testing as well as probable cause testing. Some Federal jobs, Interstate commerce, law enforcement to name a few.
The best way to not have to be concerned about it is STAY OFF THE DOPE. There are many programs available to help, but one needs to recognize the need first which is very hard to do.

I've had a number of jobs, and in the last 15 years, I have never had to take a drug test. Maybe you're in the wrong industry/.

Yes, usually within 3 days of possible hiring. Most places will not make it official until they get the results back from the test so it is considered a pre-hiring requirement. Good luck on that and drink lots of water!!

i have jobs where yes right away and some a few days later, just depends on the people..u got a 50/50 chance!
