Hello,
I think the companies that manufacture them have all of us people by the short hairs, with the fact that they know we must dispose of the trash. So the bag that costs them,(wild guess here)say .28 cents.costs us an aweful lot more...
Case in point...
I needed some strong bags for disposing leaves, sticks and other things that were in my yard...
So i bought those Force Flex ones that are ribbed and you can really pack the trash in them...
They were over $6.00 a box...
But hey,i needed them so i paid the price asked on the shelf...
Nice inquiry on your part..:)

the plastic costs a lot!!! it's a petroleum product ... and you know the price of oil is going up..

When I buy garbage bags I like to buy the quality ones ... the kind that are heavy duty and have the red tie ribbon thingeee.. . you don't want them to break on the way outside (yuchh.!). You can buy them cheap in the big discount stores (like Costco, Sam's Club, etc.) get a huge box and they will last you a long time....in fact buy a lot of them, they won't go bad if stored properly and they will only get more expensive!

I don't know. But you are so right, it's ridiculous & there's no point in buying the cheap ones. I have & you can guess what happened. Trash everywhere & alot of choice words coming out of my mouth. So here I am back to spending money for stupid expensive trash bags.

If you think about it, trash bags are a lot like gas. Economically, they're an inelastic good. All of the trash bag makers could decide to sell them for $5 a box, and you'd have to pay, because you can't just stop using trash bags.

Trash bags are made of plastic and plastic is a petrochemically based substance. The unrest in the Middle East will cause prices to go even higher.

Supply and demand. The garbage men won't pick up your trash if it's not in a bag.

I have to go along with the discount store idea! Actually I buy mine at the dollar store also. Why pay more if you don't have to. Name brands for much less than regular stores. You do have to watch them tho. Sometimes they charge $1 for something you can buy for .79 else where!
