Ask your doctor if he/she would agree to your becoming a vegan...a person who doesn't eat or use animal products. Ask the doctor if it would be all right for you to include borage oil and flaxseed or flax oil in your diet. Since I've been a vegan, my hair has not only thickened and strengthened, quite a bit of my hair seems to be returning to its original color! I was 75% silver but now I am 65% silver...the coppery light brown is returning! A good vegan diet will also help your diabetes a great deal if you watch your sugar. Good luck, dear!

Are you eating enough protien?? Your body needs at least 50 grams/day. Lack of protien could make your hair fall out.
Take a multi-vitamin. And make sure you are getting enough vitamin B. Take an extra Vitamin E supplement. (Check w/your doctor first if you are on any meds that might conflict w/this)
By the vitamin E that is liquid oil in a capsul. Break open the capsul w/a pin and squeeze it into your hand and mix it w/your conditioner when you wash your hair. This will make it stronger.
There is a shampoo called nioxin but it's kind of expensive. If you live near a sally beauty supply they have a knock off of this. It will help your hair feel thicker and may stimulate your scalp
Massage your head with your finger tips. Bringing bloodflow to the skin will help hair growth.
Make sure you are drinking plenty of water and getting enough sleep. Not only will sleep help you to destress.. they say it also has an affect on your blood sugar.
I wonder if my doctor knows anything either. It's always my chiropractor who comes up with diagnosis and ways to treat my symptoms, and they always seem to work.

I would go to another doctor and I guarantee you that if you look up the drug on the internet one of the side effects is hair loss. Drugs cause most of the problems. You definatly may need them though. But one good thing to do is to go out and buy a copy of the southbeach diet. Its not only great for losing weight but its written by a Doctor and is very geared toward diabetics. Good luck and in the meantime go out and buy these pills called NUHAIR. They work pretty good. I actually lost hair myself and later found out it was the birth control pill.

You still need to get your sugar under control. ask him about Metformin it may not make you sick, also have your thyroid checked as hair loss can be a sign of thyroid problem, also droopy eyelids are a good clue on the thyroid. Be sure to keep your sugar under control, I have problems with my sugar and now have congestive heart failure..and a heart murmer...So take care of yourself.

I'm sorry I don't know any remedies, but I suggest you get checked out by a rheumatologist for auto immune diseases like Lupus and Sjoren's, fibromyalgia etc. Hair loss is sometimes a sign of those things. Do you have any joint pain, dry eyes, trouble sleeping... or any other symptoms? If so, please do yourself a favor and have someone check your ANA. Good luck. :)
