my friends dad got mad at her for not telling him about her sexual preferences. He slapped her three times and then choked her. She came to school pretty shook up but wouldn't tell us why. I talked to her privately later and she spilled everything. Apparently her dad has a history of verbal and emotional abuse. She told me that he had never hit her or her siblings before so I am just wondering if what happened could lead to a different form of abuse. Please help. I want to help my friend so badly. Her siblings don't know about what happened either. Please help me find the right answer!!!

Yes it is abuse, Try to get in touch with a counselor at school and tell them what is going on. You know her Dad might have been sorry afterwords, but unfortunately these things tend to get worse, Look at things this way, if you and your friend talk to someone in school (a professional counselor), if her father gets anger management classes, it could possibly avoid a tragedy for her entire family.

Absolutely.
She should talk to a teacher or school guidance counselor.
The choking part is very worrying and outside the boundaries. The Dad is too violent to be disciplining a child or teen.

Yes that is a form of abuse and it should be reported to the proper authorities. No father or mother has the right to choke their child. I don't care how angry they were, that's no excuse.

This is called Physical abuse. I hope he is not sexually abusing her either. You never know. Tell the girl to live with other family members or call the cops!

Yes, that IS abouse!! That is no way to treat a kid. Get her help! She needs to tell someone of authority about this! Even a councilor will do.

No one EVER deserves to be treated like that. Even by a parent as a form of punishment.

What do you think?
If someone choked or slapped you, would you consider it abuse?

yes it is a form of abuse... but you can't prove it until you have a cam shot of it... cos there were no bruises....
but even though you can get his finger prints on the neck...
but it all depends on the reason for which this act was done ...
