A strip mall is a string of stores with a parking lot in front of them. Sometimes there is a bigger store, like a grocery story or a drug store, at one or both ends. A restaurant in a strip mall may be smaller than a freestanding one. I have eaten at many really good restaurants that were located in strip malls, so that isn't a reason not to go to the restaurant you want to try. If that particular strip mall is run down and full of vacant storefronts, then maybe you might worry about the restaurant, but there are lots of nice strip malls.

Whats A Strip Mall

A strip mall is a mall where you walk in and take off your clothes. Everyone shops in the nude so they can't SHOPLIFT anything.

Seriously, a strip mall is a long STRIP of parking spaces for stores lined up along that parking lot. There's no interior mall, only the strip of parking spaces. You get out of your car to go to whatever store you want. If you want to go to stores at each end, then repark near the second store. You could call a strip mall a "mallless" shopping center or a "car friendly" shopping center, I suppose.

A mall that has all the stores located on either side of one street.

Imagine a ghost town, but all the buildings are just mall shops. The strip is referring to the strip of road going down the middle, not a verb that you'd have to perform to patronize that mall.

A strip mall is a small, outdoor mall. It is smaller than a full fledged "shopping mall."

No, it has nothing to do with "strippers."

It's just a group of businesses all grouped together that share a parkinglot, but they each have their own entrance. As apposed to a regular mall were all the stores are connected inside.

A shopping center that usually has parking directly in front of the stores and does not have enclosed walk-ways linking the stores.
