Absolutely not. The government has only one function: to protect its citizens from the use of physical force. So long as no one is forcibly shoving fat down your throat, the government should remain unconcerned.
Put it this way: do you really want a bunch of big brother bureaucrats deciding the contents of your meals?

It would not help anyone to have fat restrictions imposed if they only regulated the amount of fat. You see, not all fat is the same. Theoretically, you could get away with eating heaps of olive oil cream, and butter in large amounts and for years without adverse effect other than a bit of weight gain; but can positively ruin your health by even small doses of refined fat, such as palm, if taken regularly. See my point? If the government wanted to do something useful about the health issues associated with fat, they should ban refined fats in foods, and put warning labels on those foods which have lots of good fat in it, stating the exact calorie amount contained to make sure people don't overdo it. Hope this makes some sense?

No because then they would need to create another organization to over see this new regulation. This would requires us to pay more taxes to fund this new organization. Why punish the smart people who can read labels and figure maybe eating too much fat is a bad thing.

No, that is too much intrusion by the government. They should regulate if it is safe to eat, such as not poisonous. But as far as regulating fat content, that takes away from our choices as consumers. The government should not be our nanny holding our hand through life.

The government should exercise its police power by requiring food manufacturers to remove fatty substances on their products that cause cardiac illnesses. That they should place on their products, "fats are dangerous to your health" just like smoking.
