Geneological research is much harder than that. You just have to go back one generation at a time until you find people who were not born in this country. At that point in time, your Laws and Moore family names may be just two of 32 people. And all 32 contributed to your heritage.
(Sorry to bear bad news, but not having a clue as to your heritage tends to indicate that your family has been in this country for MANY generations)
