The Apple Mac book Pro with the specs showen in the first link below is by far the best bang for your buck.
For the best recording you could possibly ask for, use this laptop in combination with the external usb sound card (due to your portibility requirements) showen in the second link.
Then to round it of and make it the perfect recording studio use the software and hardware showen in the third and forth link. You wont be disapointed. See the full line up of Digidesign hardware at zzsounds that is designed to work with the Pro Tools software. It's the best money can buy.
You can be sure to produce the best audio with this package. Many professionals in radio and tv production rave over this set up and say Pro Tools Digiesign support is unserpassed.
Don't forget to add the extended service contract to the Mac.
Ps. Disreguard the didesign hard drive, I thought it was the external type.

Not so much for the power and capability, but i believe that mac has more third party support, AND greater acceptance in the creative community than the PC/Windows laptop.
This means that you will have an easier time sharing you work, collaborating with fellow creatives, since you will have the same platform and software.

its not really the os but the components that make up the laptop. the latest version of windows or mac. i would advice u to call the pc manufacturer and describe the them what u want and they'll help u make a choice (hence: dont choose a cheep laptop)

Depends on the money you want to spend. You may want to check into custom built laptops, designed specifically for your needs. But there are many pre-built laptops that would also suit your needs. The highest performance laptops I have seen to date, other than customs, are built by Alienware. Research, Research, Research, Google, Google, Google. Good luck.
