Before you jump headfirst into the land of small retail computer operations... take a hard look at the business environment. How do you expect to compete with large volume companies?

Once upon a time, the landscape was dotted with small computer retailers. These days, you see very few "computer" stores - and those that are, carry a very broad line of electronics related merchandise.

The basic problem is margins - computers have become a commodity-like business, with razor thin margins and offshore manufacturing.

Try working in a store and becoming a manager. The business model they use will not be the same one you want to use - but you may learn enough to save yourself a considerable amount of cash.

I agree wtih Rex. NOT to put a damper in your dreams. You are headed in the right direction trying to make a place for yourself in the biz world. But have you projected numbers, looked at profit margins, operating costs, sought retail or parts, looked into importing?

What is your drive for getting into computers? Do you have a knack for them? Do you understand pipelining, bus optimizations, tweaking the motherboard and the periphreals to run at the highest speed and efficiency? Doing custom cases and such? If that is the case then you could go into the customization business.

If that is the case you could try "Overclocked Electronics"
