If you mean what do I believe in to make everything come out right, the answer is, "nothing". I don't believe things have to work out right for each of us individually or all of us collectively. I'm not even sure there is such a thing as "coming out right" for the universe (what would that mean?).

But if you mean what do I believe has the best chance of helping us (humankind) through our difficulties, I think the answer is, "reason" first and foremost, and "love" (compassion and tolerance) second.

Reason first, because we need to be able to see things clearly before we can decide what to do, what is beneficial, what is harmful. We need to have the intelligence to solve problems and clear heads about policies, ideologies, technologies, practices and beliefs.

Love second because reason without love is inhuman, and probably even selfish (though enlightened egoism probably would be better for people generally than misguided compassion).

Reason with Love will help the human race, if it can become widespread. But even so, a meteor could hit the planet, or a plague could wipe us out. There is nothing, I think, that can be sure of saving us in all circumstances.

I have faith in the existance of human competence.

I have faith in the natural human desire for excellence.

I have faith in the secret, never-shared human capacity for decency.

I have faith in a fearsome quality it behooves us all to continuously and profoundly respect: "poetic justice."

I have faith in; that whatever happens- I will get through it, & life will go on. Like Scarlet O'Hara said, "Tomorrow- is another day!"

Very little.

But I trust people and things with proven track records.  Science is damn good at the things you can use it on (the natural world).  Politicians and preachers are more corrupt than the average Joe.
