Light organ. Usually there was a diamond cut plastic lens in front of the lights to give it that psychodelic look.

In the 70s I was a teen and had all the optical stuff in my room. I had a strobe light (white neon that was ajustable from 0 SPM to 60 SPM) and a black UV light as well as a light organ (the colored lights in a wood box about the size of a speaker with a smoked diamond patern defuzer screen) and would take some L and smoke some nature and light off the incense and turn up the radio tuned to KMET and just zone.
Thanks for the memory.

Revolving color wheels and the dance floors had flashing color lights in them. It was pretty, but sometimes made you dizzy if you had too many drinks and was trying to dance. The strobe lights wer the worst of all!

I remember the name "color organ" they had sound pickups or could be connected to your speaker outputs. The good ones had different colored bulbs for the bassier sounds.
