Without a doubt, Abe Lincoln. He freed the slaves despite opposition in his own party. One of the greatest world leaders ever.
While Kennedy may have had great promise, his presidency was tragically cut short, robbing him of a fulsome legacy.
Max_sterling: Lincoln was NOT a founding father. He was president over 80 years AFTER the founding of the nation.

I would say that for Kennedy his term in office was very short and some of his major actions were failures like the Cuban Missile Crisis and so forth. I think many people rank him high because he died so young and so tragically. Americans have the habit of knighting people who die with work left unfinished. I think that Kennedy did represent as he said the "passing of the torch" to the next generation. Finally the sons and daughters of the World War II generation had a leader that they could identify with and respect. Maybe not on a mass scale but to some degree. That was robbed by Oswald....or others who knows.
I would say that Lincoln is ranked high because he led us through the Civil War, the Civil war is so popular in books and he too had his life taken before things could be settled after the Civil War. Personally I do think the best President was Abe Lincoln, he was also one of the most intelliegent.

I liked JFK's smile and his personality. I respected his stand during the Cuban Crisis.
But as for as presidents, I did not think he was great. He also was not a great husband. He was a womanizer as Clinton was....
Abraham Lincoln was a great president, along with Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush.

It's hard to say about JFK. He was not President long enough to make a real mark. I know he created the Peace Corp and proposed legislation re: Civil Rights. He avoided an international holocuast wihen he got Kruschev to stand down on arms in Cuba. But he was also embarassed by the Bay of Pigs fiasco. In reality he is more known for what his assassination did to the country rather than what he did FOR the country. With all the info that's come out since, my own opinion is that he was a sexual pig. He had women on the side and when his brother, Teddy, got married and was worried about being celibate, JFK informed him that he shouldn't worry about that. He could have as many women as he wanted. The Kennedy's, I'm sorry, are basically pigs. And forget about this whole Kennedy curse thing. Kennedy's die because they are reckless.
JFK died because his father ensured his election via promises to the mafia. Then JFK's Attorney General, brother RFK, went after the Mafia. Then RFK ran and again, the Mafia stepped in. In more recent times, JFK Jr. died because he had no business flying his plane at night as we was not trained in instrument-only flying. In this case, he brought down two other people with his recklessness, his wife and her sister. One of his cousin's died because he was trying to receive a football pass while skiing down a mountain. I'll repeat in case someone doesn't get the idiocy of this: WHILE CAREENING DOWN A SNOWY, SLIPPERY HILL IN WINTER, WITH LOTS OF TREES AND STUFF IN THE WAY, THIS GUY WAS INTENT ON RECEIVING A FOOTBALL PASS. Hello,.Kennedy's aren't lplagued by a curse, they're just cocky beyond words.

First off, you cant very well compare a modern president to one of the founding fathers, its a retarded analogy. Kennedy was one of the greats though, he was so loved by the people that when he died there was an uproar of public opinion that will probably never show itself again. He was the embodiment of what you would think true American royalty could be and the world is a darker place without him.

He would have been had he not been assassinated. He was planning on bringing the troops home from VietNam before the war escalated any further; he was in favor of a civil rights bill being passed (which got passed during the LBJ administration); he proved during the Cuban missle crisis he wouldn't take s*** from Russia or Cuba; he was in favor of increasing funding for space exploration - the list is endless. So much potential - so much taken away by the CIA and organized crime when they had him assassinated.

JFK was one of our better presidents, if you really look at it, he had very few screw-ups during his term, or at least far less than many presidents. lincoln was without a doubt the greatest of all our presidents, not just because of what he did in office, but the home life he balanced with it. and in just one term, too!

He can be considered one of many...but Abraham Lincoln was definetly better. JFK did many good things in his short time in office, but started many bad things also such as Vietnam. He would be in my top 15

He did nothing. He was young and to the people of the time he seem fresh and invigorating but other than the Cuban Missle Crisis he did little. And Bay of Pigs is a bit his fault as well as the previous one.
All of the Rushmore heads outrank him.
