I am very concerned about the entire situation. All of the casualties so far have been innocent civilians, including several children.

The twist in the media here makes it sound like Israel is in the right. PM Harper calls the attacks "measured". Two soldiers are worth all of this?

This hardly seems like something Canadians would typically support. I think Harper speaks for himself and not for the country. I know he definitely doesn't speak for me.

I am also unhappy with the delay in getting our citizens out of there safely.

The whole thing is a mess and quite frankly, it scares me.

What do you think?

Remember what John Lennon sang...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

I too don't agree with Harper's economy-driven biases. It's unfortunate to hear any representative of Canada support violent aggression against civilians, not to mention supporting the detainment of 64 government officials (lawmakers, justices and cabinet ministers) from a democratically elected government. By the way, the terms "detain", "capture" and "kidnap" can describe the same action.

However, I'd just like to inform Evangelista that this incident was brought on by terror from both sides. It has been an ongoing cycle of terror against civilians/politicians/soldiers on all sides of the Lebanon/Israel/Palestine borders.

Try to critically think from the perspective of individuals on all sides of the violence.. and you may have to reconsider how you define terrorism. I assume you have never been forced to experience discrimination at road blocks, curfews, the sound of low-flying military jets over your home in the middle of the night, destruction of infrastructure, restrictions on resources, and the inability of officials to prevent such activity (due to limitations forced upon those officals by the international community).

Now, try to imagine the amount of suffering a mother would need to endure in order to encourage her sons to join Hezbollah rather than study medicine (or the number of academics who join or support Hamas/Hezbollah after completing their degrees).

Canada should work towards discouraging all forms of violence, whether it's physical or psychological.

Hmm... modern-day background ring any bells? because of the fact did no longer they do exactly that some years in the past? besides, i'm purely a touch cynical whilst the only source quoted source for the form and numbers of those 'long variety' missiles (considering the undeniable fact that may not long variety, it is medium) is an IDF Brigadier well-known. it is in his pastime to construct up the probability. That way whilst Hezbollah lob missiles into Israel (which they certainly will) he's already well-known the mandate for rolling each of how as much as Beirut. And apparently they could could desire to invade with the aid of UN gadgets; i ask your self how that could circulate down with Israel's regularly occurring allies?

My answer is more of a comment on the lyrics of the song, I'm a dreamer too, that's why I live in Canada where no one judges you on your color religion or opinion! Go Canada!
PS. I don't think Canada should get involved in the whole middle east thing. In fact i think while every other country is waisting it's soldiers and money on this crap, we should concentrate on more important things within the country! My husband is in the army, i wouldn't want him to be sent there!

It's not the kidnapping that started all this. It's Israel being sick and tired of Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Palestinians trying to make their lives living hell in order to kick them out of a home that they've rightfully deserved since WWII. You're right: war is bad, but Israel has no choice. They're surrounded by Muslims (and Muslim terrorists) that are willing to go to all extent see them dead. Seems to me they can only fight back. Doing otherwise would just make themselves seem weak and more prone to terrorist attacks.

Mr. Harper is too busy sucking up to the United States and other countries to care about our citizens. He should not have waited to start evacuating our citizens out of there, he should of started evacuation immediately. He makes our country look like we are uncaring.
