i've tried lots of mascara and eye liner...but it just doesn't seem to work. is there any way i could just use eye shadow and mascara only because a lot of eye liner makes my eyes look smaller because i have big almond shaped eyes.

Try only light grey eyeshadow powder and blend it in only on the lower lid and then with a black eyeliner pencil add a line just over yr eyelid on the top.

You best result should come from visiting a department store, like J.C. Penny's or the like where you get to sit on a tall stoll while the expert eye make-up lady will initiate you into the world of perfect eye make-up, and of course, along witih learning her technique, she can sell you everything you need to duplicate it the next day, right on the spot. Oh well, or so it seems to me, as long as you think you need the instruction/free lesson(s), hey you can come back, for free, other days until you get it right after all. Whatever you will need. Go for it!!!

Mally's smokey eye it sold on QVC.com. There is several beautiful colors too choose from, it has a eyeshadow base 3 shadows & 1 awesome black eyeliner. It is foolproof, it's the 1st time it has ever worked for me, I have two kits! They even show you how to do it on QVC.com & it comes with a brochure how to do it too.

Always go with MAC. Try MAC Eye Kohl in Smolder; this shade is the must have pencil for dramatic smoky eyes.
