No. I'm not sure where this one is directed. If it's directed at Christians, then "No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father." (Matthiew 24:36 and Mark 13:32 NIV) If it's directed at other religions, I'm not an expert, but if there was actually evidence, there would be more coverage. If it's directed to atheists-agnostics, then what scientific evidence is there? None. Don't believe everything you hear at school. (Like evolution and teacher's political ideas for example)

I will say that the end times are likely near from a Christian point of view. "But you, Daniel, close up and seal the words of the scroll until the time of the end. Many will go here and there to increase knowledge." (Daniel 12:4) Look how much transportation and knowledge have increased in the past 100 years (a little more now) back in bible times, progress was slow. Not much changed over thosands of years land based transportation wise, max speeds of like 35 or 40. In a 150 or so years we went from less than 60mph (see Back to the future when 66mph was fast) to 763 mph (on land). We weren't flying 110 years ago, and now were in space. (at speeds up to 24,790 manned and ~150000 unmanned)

And you don't have to look hard to see how fast were increasing in knowledge.

Also, this is less biblical, but a monk in Ireland (I think) predicted all the popes from his time to the end times. Not specific names, but some describers. Including a few that hit close to home. According to his list, I believe that Pope John Paul was 3rd to last.

According to the Mayan (Aztec) calender we will be entering the 5th death of the world (2012). I forget the book title but basically we can expect increased solar activity- to the point that people around the equator will become sterile,( radiation) animals as well, massive droughts and tsunamis. It will go on for years.
Combine this with the natural fluctuations in the hole in the ozone (scientists have discovered that there has always been a hole in the ozone) and that it fluctuates size naturally. (we just made it bigger allot bigger).
This also explains why sometimes in the Olmec, Mayan, and Aztec cultures human sacrifices increase to ridiculous levels during the last (4-deaths).. trying to appease the gods.

I am not making this up The author and some fellow scientists to check out if their estimates are correct took river bed samples(trees only live so long 1000-2000 years at the most) lake bottoms go back, 100's of thousand of years. They compared this to the earlier (4 deaths) of the planet and it is 100% accurate.

No one has been able do dispute his findings (i think he published his theory around 1996-97)

In the year 2012:

The following predictions are theories based upon sources of varying origin and credibility. Many of these theories rely upon a decent amount of conjecture, and should therefore not be considered to be facts.

The Olduvai cliff will begin and permanent blackouts will occur worldwide, according to "The Peak of World Oil Production and the Road To The Olduvai Gorge" by Richard C. Duncan. (Good story by the way!)

Terence McKenna's Novelty Theory claims that time is a fractal wave of increasing novelty that goes exponential in 2012.

December 21 - End of the great cycle of the Maya calendar's Long Count and a 26,000 year planetary cycle in the Aztec calendar, and thus the end of this Baktun (the end of the cycle is variously dated anywhere from December 21 to December 26 by some calculations).

Tibetan Monks specialising in remote viewing predict that divine extra-terrestrials will intervene at a point where the world's governments are about to deploy weapons of mass destruction. Adding to this, the Tibetan Monks say that the world is not ready to be destroyed and that our Earth is blessed and being saved continuously from all kinds of hazards of which mankind is not even aware.

The Prophecy of the Popes, attributed to Saint Malachy, speculated that Pope Benedict XVI would reign during the beginning of the tribulation which Jesus spoke of, and sometime later a future pope described in the prophecy as "Peter the Roman", the last in this prophetic list, would appear, bringing as a result the destruction of the city of Rome and the Last Judgement. It is possible that Benedict XVI and Peter the Roman are the same person, according to some interpretations.

Charismatic Korean religious leader Sun Myung Moon is talking extensively about the End of Restoration in 2012, and beginning of a New Sinless Time for Mankind.

Some postulate that a Galactic SuperWave (A galactic superwave is a large quantity of gamma rays which are released at somewhat regular intervals from a Pulsar) will strike the Earth around the 2012 time frame, as discussed by Dr. Paul LaViolette.

The Biblical Code and Nostredamus have both said there is to be a comet in the year 2012. The Bible Code says though that we do have an opportunity to stop this comet.

... *No matter what the prophecy, it is clear that people have seen there will be a shift in time as humans know it. Most people will not survive it do to the simple fact that most people don't care anymore. If the world continues at the rate it is going, no one will survive. People have to learn how to love and bond together in times of need. People will need to be able to help eachother and most people today could care less about their neighbor. Unless people learn kindness and put love in their hearts the "cataclysm" will end this world.

It is interesting that another prophecy "Nostradamus Code" predicts the 'World War III' will take place between 2007 and 2012, putting the end of the world in 2012. Nostradamus Code is a book written about the prophecy of Prophet Michel de Notradame, or Nostradamus (1503-1566).

According to the present situations in the world, the prediction could come into reality at any moment if -
1)Taiwan declares Independence and the U.S protects it against China's invasion (possibility=very high)
2)North Korea starts a nuclear war as it always threatens and the enless retaliations follow (possibility=dangerously high)
3)Iran or a Muslim country armed with nuclear starts a nuclear Jihad on Isreal or non-Muslim countries (possibility=100%: as it is Allah's command and a Muslim's duty to destroy non-Muslims by all means, and Iran declared to wipe Isreal out of the World's map)
4)Many other unpredictable startups...

The Mayan calander ends in 2012, but I'm not too sure the world itself will end then. They said the world would end in 2000, and several times before that and we're still here. I will tell you that the sun is theorized to explode in about 6 million years. By then, most humans will be gone from the Earth anyway. I'd say we've got some time.

Stephen Hawking said that we've GOT to colonize other planets because if we keep polluting the planet at the rate we have, this planet won't be habitable in about 10 years, so I think we'd better get off our collective butts and deal with the planet we're on, for however much longer we're on it.

I have to echo what some others here have said about the Mayan calendar, which is what I have heard for years, but consider this. What if the 5th world "ends", meaning some major world changing event happens and then a 6th world begins? Some have called that kind of thing the Age of Aquarius, I think, back in my mom and dad's day.

Everyone thought the world would end in 2000. But that was back in the day. People at my school were afaid all hell would break loose on 6/6/06 and end the world. People are comstantly talking about things like that. I think we would KNOW if the world was going to end.

that is predicted because of the mayan calendar. it has predicted every single natural occurence for the past few thousand years, and gives a precise date without leap years. however, abruptly ends at the year 2012. no prediction, no nothing.

the bible states that no man knows when the end of the world is.

personally, I've heard 2000, 2009, 2012.

but I'm placing my bets on around 2031. the 2000th anniversary of the death of Christ.

I don't see it happening that way despite the Mayan calendar. We have a full age to go before a really major change occurs. However, we might very well be in the times described in the Apocalypse of John. We are one generation away from the reformation of Israel. And if the whole world comes against Israel, and the U.S. goes through a serious depression again, we really could see our lifestyles drastically change. I believe it is a time for prayer, for all of us to turn to Christ and ask for guidance.
