Jasper h,
Move the decimal 4 places to the right: 23,000

400 = 50t
400/50 = t
t = 8

2.3 x 10 exponent 4 = 23000

d = rt solve for t

d/r = t

400/50 = 8

10 to 4th exponent is 1 and 4 zeroes
one "zero" moves the decimal place over 1 to the right, you've still got 3 zeroes to account for. answer is 23,000

23000. For each 10exponent you move the decimal to the right. If it had been 2.3*10^2, it would be 230.

400=50*t
400/50=8
t=8

2.3 x 10^4 = 23 000

d = rt
t = d/r
t = 400 mi / 50mph
t = 8 hrs.

(Note: the formula d = rt is actually wrong. There are 4 other formulas in kinematics that is accepted :

1. final distance = 1/2 (acceleration * time squared) + (initial velocity * time) + initial distance
2. final velocity = (acceleration * time) + initial velocity
3. change in position = average velocity * time
4. (final velocity squared) - (initial velocity squared) = 2 * acceleration * change in position

i think it is 2300

d = r * t
400 = 500 * t
400 / 500 = t
0.8 = t
