how can i become less shy?

i seem to have a problem talking to people...i distant myself from others cuz im scared for some odd reason

ive been isolated for 3 years now from all of humanity except for on my comp. im scared to death of public and social events.i box myself in at times cuz i dont want anyone to get close or be around me,please tell me how i can get over this

I have the same problem, but I don't really want to get over mine. I'm isolated from others except for my computer and I'm scared of talking to other people because I'm painfully shy, but I like it. I'm a major loner. But something that has helped me expand my social skills was getting a job as a cashier because you are kind of forced to socialize with others. It's done wonders for me.

You need to expand your social skills.. In other words... talk! You're talking to us, right? You also need to join some after-school activites.. You might find some friends there with the same interests!!

take up an acting class or something that deals with people and performance (acting, sports, dance) so that you can overcome stage fright, meet new people, and learn to become friends with others...be yourself, push yourself to try and you can overcome this shyness...i know it's tough because i had pushed myself not to be shy...it was hard but i loved the new friends...
