This guy is being offered 55k annual to work for us and the agency who gave us his name is asking for 11k .
We do want to hire the guy but DAMN!
Is this fee negotiable and if so, how low do you think we can go?

We met the agency one time and they usually dont work in our field (Architectural) but in a week they called us with a guy, we interviewed him and want to hire him. But for a fee to the agency for 11k? Seems excessive for the small amt of time they put in.

yes, all fees like this are open to negotiation. offer to pay them faster is a good chip to play.

offer 10% at point of hire with no guarantee.

You should have negotiated the fee BEFORE you found the perfect applicant. But actually, 20% isn't bad. And remember, they only get that if he/she stays with your company for a certain length of time. Therefore, you know they're not sending you flakes.

The employment agency spent a lot of time and energy developing contacts and information in order to supply you with that potential employee. Obviously, you don't have the same contacts or you would have found the person yourself.

You've saved your company days and possibly weeks of weeding through resumes of people who were not suitable, the cost of advertising in newspapers and trade magazines, sitting through so many interviews with people who look good on paper but are actually incompetent, you should be glad the agency was there to help you out.

No, I don't work for an employment agency. But I've done enough hiring, and been recruited by enough of them to know whereof I speak.

Typically, I've seen 25% fee provided that the candidate lasts on the job at least 3 months....but you can negotiate anything.
