No, but it does come in handy and not having one could prove to be a great inconvenience. Nonetheless, there are usually libraries on campus that provide computer access for students. That could be a particularly good avenue when it comes to researching data, preparing assignments and accessing relevant school-related documents :).

Depends on what college. If you mean like a university type that I'm in more then 90 percent of students usually have computers. My college has computer labs so it not necessary but there are colleges that require computers or laptops. It is just more conveniences to have a computer.

Believe me, a computer is something you'll def. want to have unless you like the idea of being in a dark computer lab at all hours of the night when you have lots of things to do or constantly having to leave your room to email and assignment etc. You can find some pretty cheap ones at Walmart, Best Buy , etc especially since the school year is about to start.

If for nothing else but writing your reports (and you will write lots and lots of reports). When comparing typing on a typewriter to using a personal computer's word processor, is comparing jet planes to horses and buggies. You don't need anything really special (unless you are going into some computer or engineering technology or graphic design or arts or--just get a computer.

Nowadays you don't "need" one but is sure was helpful for me. I was able to get my homework done at home and not spend time at the school library or computer lab to get stuff typed up. All essays are required to be typed now. (It's too difficult for professors to read handwritten essays anymore.. their eyes would fall out LOL).. plus its easier to use the computer tools like "cut and paste" and have the ability to edit your words as you go along. As a research tool it's awesome if you're online.\
I think I would have had a much more difficult time getting honors grades without one.

i lived in the dorms for my first year of college (this past year, 2005-2006) and i found having a computer was extremely nice. depending on the school you go to, computer labs will typically be crowded, especially when it is paper writing time. however, some schools do offer nice deals for renting computers, which you might look into before purchasing one

it helps a LOT if you have a computer at college... even better if you have a good computer ... and even better if you have a good laptop.

You will be writing a LOT of papers... doing research... sending emails.. and maybe some of your classes will have online discussions that you are required to participate in....

or... you can do without one of your own.. and wait in line for the school's computer lab..... but then you will need a good portable storage device... USB devices work good.. probably 128Mb is enough.. but.. you may want 256Mb or maybe even 512Mb if you are doing a lot of research.. or your classes use large files like artwork.

OMG yes. I can't imagine writing all of the papers and whatnot trying to wait around for an open computer at a library. Plus there can be online assignments, you need to do research, etc.

It is not mandatory if the college of your choice has a computer lab, however, it is convienent for you when the lab is close and you need to do research or surf the web. So it is really up to you.
