This question was asked by my six years old daughter.I thought it was funny at first, on second thought....Any answer to satisfy a six years old mind?What would you've answered?

It is named after the estate of the Duke of Beaufort in Gloucestershire, Badminton House, where a form of the game was played.

"the Duke of Beaufort was entertaining soldiers at his estate called ‘Badminton House’, where the soldiers played Poona. The Duke of Beaufort’s non-military guests began referring to the game as ‘the badminton game’, and thus the game became known as "badminton".

It was originally called Battledores and Shuttlecocks.

It was very popular in the 1860s in India, where the soldiers played it at Duke of Beauford's house, which was called Badminton Manor.

Rather than call it Poona (played in the city of Poona, India), they settled on Badminton.

Badminton is just a name of a game it doesn't mean BAD_MINTON...
so tell her the word "bad" in start doesn't mean really BAD... its the whole word BADMINTON!!! that's why no need to say GOODMINTON lolzzz

Because when you hit the birdy, it's not called hitting, it's called badmining. You badmin the birdy, so, it's badmin-ton, badminton! I don't really know what else I would say besides go ask your mother!
