According to CNN Money, civil makes $44,999 a year for starting salary, while mechanical makes about $50,672 a year for starting salary. The source lists the top degrees in term of starting salary, and how much each has.
But, if you go for engineering simply because of the money, you will have a really, really hard time. For example, mechanical and aerospace have "fun" with mechinal physics, and thermal, aero, liquid dynamics, and various other crap. EE folks have their share of fun in E&M physics, circuits, and some programming. CS/CE folks got programming. ChemE folks got chemistry. BioE folks got biology.
Also, no matter which engineering you are in, you will have to finish a lot of math and physics too.
I gave you the numbers. But if you are considering civil engineering because of it, like others suggest, you should reconsider.

Go to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook and select Engineers. There is an earnings section as well as one that describes the roles of each type of specialty. Earnings vary with the level of education you have, but "average starting salary offers for engineers, according to a 2005 survey by the National Association of Colleges and Employers" indicate that civil engineers with masters degrees earn less any of the other engineer specialties and electrical engineers had higher starting salaries.

You would do well to brush up on your grammar, spelling and sentence structure. Engineers have to express themselves in writing. Your question is hard to answer since each company that hires MEs has its own salary structure, and rules about promotion. As a ROUGH guide, try the Federal GS Scales (engineers) as a guide. A Bachelor Degree engineer would probably be hired at the GS-7 to 9 level, a Master Degree engineer at the GS-9 to 11 level.

There are engineers that are multi-millionaires and engineers that are making $70,000.00 a year. It all depends on basic principles. Think outside of the box, invent the box, control the box, market the box and then sell the box. If you stick to this you will have boxes of money. Good Luck!!!!

i would say m.e. is a little harder and makes a little more money. but you should decide on which one you enjoy more, not which one is harder or makes more money.
