People who say that they are turned into glue and dogfood are wrong.

Horses that have died due to illnesses or natural causes pose a health risk to other animals if eaten. Horses are not turned into glue (They just used the hooves anyway).

Horses that die are not given to slaughter, either.

I have owned horses all my life. I had a horse pass away on Easter morning due to impaction colic (He was 45 years old as well).

When a horse dies of illness or natural causes, they are given to a renderer, who will cremate the horse, and spread the ashes, or use them for fertilizer.

My horse however was given to a renderer who cremated his body using special chemicals to extract the chemicals out of his body. The ones extrated were sold off to be put into purfume (Yes, the purfume that men and ladies wear on a daily basis. Animal by-products are in purfumes, tooth paste, soaps, so many things that we use on a daily basis)

People need to get their facts straight.Horses are NOT made into glue or dog food anymore. When they are slaughtered they are done so for human consumption over seas.
When horses are dead they are sent to a rendering plant, cremated or if the owners can, they bury the horses,
Lame horses are often times cured rather easily.Although some owner don't care and then send them to auction. It is against federal law to ship a lame horse to slaughter,as well as blind or pregnant horse. It happens all the time time though.

After horses die, some people bury them and some give them to the slaughter house...it's very sad. For lame horses, some lameness can be cured and some can't. Some people keep lame horses and some put them to sleep

Most responsible horse owners deal with this sad situation as best they can. Many bury them on their property. Some are cremated.
Lameness isn't a death sentence. Rest and time usually take care of it. It's like us, if we get an ache or pain, some aspirin(Bute for horses) and rest do a world of good.

Stop horse slaughter in this Country!! You can make a difference.

If a horse is lame and lucky, it will be put out to pasture where it will be essentially a good-looking lawn mower.

If it is unlucky, it will be shot. Because of their size, you cannot bury horses in many areas because they are an environmental hazard (pollutes water etc.) so most horses who aren't sick when they die get sent to a dog food or glue factory. If they're sick, they are usually creamated.

there are lots of options... if the horse died of natural causes or like a broken leg or laminitis, they could be used for animal food or cremated or buried.

if the horse was unhealthy, they will most of the time be cremated incase they may spread something.

if a horse is lame and unfixable, like at the racetrack, they get euthanized, like secretariat and barbaro may get euthanized too. its all about weighing the pros and cons. while a euthanization and burial/cremation/disposal may run about 600$$, trying and trying to fix the horse may cost thousands and thousands of dollars, and it will become useless.

HORSES THAT ARE LAME, CAN MOST OF THE TIME BE FIXED VETS ARE SO GOOD THESE DAYS AND WHEN A HORSE DIES BURY THEM AS YOU WOULD YOUR PET DOG. IF YOU HINTING AROUND ABOUT GLUE FACTORIES THERE ARE PPL THAT GO TO AUCTIONS AND BUY SKINNY BROKE DOWN HORSES CHEAP AND TAKE THEM TO DOG FOOD COMPANIES AND SELL THEM FOR MEAT. JUST LIKE SLAUGHTER HOUSES FOR PIGS OR COWS.
