I really don't want him ti retire but seeing that he was planning to do it anyway, why would that silly event prevent him from doing it. I have watched Zizou play many time. He is an amazing player and this incident didn't change, I think, the opinion of true fans about him. His country(ies) support him and he also won that golden cup thing, which is for best player in the tournament.
He's awesome!

he announced that he was retiring after the WC 2006 almost a year ago. and things do happened on the field and it happened to be at the biggest sporting event in the world, THE WORLD CUP FINAL. and he was the best player at the tournament and he deserves the GOLDEN BALL AWARD it doesn't matter what he did he simply was the BEST player at the tournament..
and if you would watch the WC then you would know and if you really watched football then you would of known that he was retiring after the WC 2006.

He was retiring anyway, but his disgraceful display shows that he should retire. Remember this is not the first time Zidane has head-butted someone.

he was retired from the French Squad he came back just for the cup and he retired right after... He has a few more years left of soccer at REAL MADRID. I mean who doesn't Real Madrid have... they have Beckham, Ronaldo and now Cannavaro....

Interesting note Real Madrid with all that star power has not been the top of thier league... Cannavaro just signed with them today... so its not his fault...
