Methadone is a drug that is used to withdraw Heroin addicts from Heroin but is just as addictive. I would imagine your brother takes it to keep himself from the withdrawing feelings both physical and emotional from whatever his drug of choice is. It is my experience that most people are drug users because they are self medicating so they don't have to feel. You'd be amazed at how many of them are intelligent..so intelligent that they can't handle what they see in the world. Addiction is a horrible disease and it can be fought if the person is willing to do whatever he or she has to do in order to live. I'm thinking that you and your family may want to consult a professional interventionist and take a big long look at how you and your family are enabling and allowing him to continue his behavior. Try watching that show on A & E called Intervention. It's a very accurate portrayal of how a good intervention should be handled. The addict needs to be told how much everyone loves him and how they will no longer be there to help him stay sick or watch him slowly kill himself. Good luck. My prayers will be with you, your brother.. and your family.

Methadone is a narcotic pain reliever and also is used to detox people that are hooked on either heroin or narcotic pain relievers such as vicodin aka hydrocodone and lorcet lortabs and many others. Your brother should understand that this drug can be fatal if taken for other reasons and he should seek help immediately. I am a nurse and would be very glad to help if you are willing to talk about it please feel free to email at mrsshanathomas@yahoo.com.

Methadone is something addicts are given when they are trying to give up heroin. It is just as addictive and sometimes easier for people to get their hands on. They want to take it for the buzz.

it's generally perscribed to help someone cope with the withdraw from opiate-based narcotics. Sometimes, it's given as a painkiller (not very often anymore, with much safer drugs available). It has not been shown to help with the withdraw from non-opiate based narcotics or other drugs...
Some people might abuse it, because it does provide a high similar to some narcotics (not as strong), without the strong addictive aspect.

methadone is a drug that either replaces or helps wean you off an opiate such as heroin. maybe the person is trying to detox themselves. i heard it takes away/cuts the cravings but doesn't allow one to feel high.
