If I want to have the best sound if/when should I rehair my bow and restring my violin? Is the sound quality better when you change these things, or does it sound better when they are "worn" in some? Also in your opinion what is the best sounding strings? And really any other advice you may have!

If you want to rehair and restring, definitely do it as soon as possible. Strings take at least a week to settle in. Bow hair, it kind of depends when you last rehaired. For strings, it depends on what kind of sound you like and how much you're willing to spend. I prefer Dominants as they are inexpensive, synthetic and sound okay.

I play Viola but its basically the same thing. I think u should rehair ur bow like 2 weeks before the concert so u get used to the sound. The same with the strings. Good luck!

I would rehair about 3 weeks before so that you have time to fix it if there is a problem. As for strings, it depends if you are using gut or synthetic. More than likely you use synthetic. In that case, I always like to give them at least a week to fully break in and become stable for intonation and other reasons. Also, be sure to have a couple extra sets on hand at all times, just in case. One less thing to worry about, you know.

I hope your recital goes great. Why don't you list some of your pieces in the question for curious minds.

Many blessings to you.

My opinion, is that if you are going to restring, then do it now. I never change my strings within a month of a recital because I find that it alters the sound and also how I play, it's just annoying...
