I don't think there is one, because if one follows his party the other party will get upset, and if the President rides the fence on issues then he dissapoints both sides. Good Presidents only come to be only when what they did can be looked back upon as a doing a good job. Just take Lincoln, The South hated this man before and after the war, now he is considered a good president. So I guess what really makes a good President is time.

One who can convince all his people or representatives of the people to follow his ideas or his plans for the greater good of the state and all under the state, specially the people, (actually without the people there is no state).
If the majority of the congress, senate, representatives or THE PEOPLE are all convinced about the president's plans for them, then i say that's one heck of a GOOD PRESIDENT!
Materialization of it is no longer questionable once all the people are convinced. The next step is to ACT!!!
It must be a mutual relationship between the leader and his follower. Once all the PEOPLE UNITE on a certain goal... there is no stopping... just imagine the force of a united people... WOW WOW WOW!!! It just excites me just imagining the FORCE! the ENERGY! of a UNITED PEOPLE!!!

We will never have a President that America thinks is good.
We say we want one that stands by his convictions & then we call him names for standing by his convictions. Whoever is in office the other party will go after him or her. Until we find some patriotism for country & respect for president, we will have no good president. No one has been happy with President since JFK's death. People have always disagreed with views but the office itself was shown respect. Social diease - lack of respect of office of President.

Bill Clinton was a good president, looking at it as a chief executive job in a very large corporation, I think he was the most successful at the business of running the country in over 40 years.

One who does not feel he has to micro-manage the lives of the American people - generally a fault of democrats who want to protect us from ourselves. But then there's the Patriot Act which Bush signed (but was primarily designed during the Clinton years) which is equally as deadly to our way of life.
The best president is the one who most leaves his/her citizens alone to pursue their livelihoods without burdening them with excessive taxation and excessive legal and 'self-protective' legistaltion (i.e. passing bogus laws telling us that we MIGHT hurt ourselves or someone else). But we haven't had a president like that since the earliest days of this nation. So sad.

I coould answer the question with a standard response like, someone who has integrity, intelligent, etc. However, I would just sum it up as someone who is the total opposite of the current idiot that now holds the office.

There is no such thing, people are too diverse and the media only reports negative things to the masses so no good president for us.

Right now I'd even choose Eddie Murphey, No offence, man, I think you'd do better. George Carlin for Vice, he can talk dirty better than Cheney.
