You said India -your homeland, so you are atleast a PIO if not Indian.

Let me tell you that in India, most Indians do understand each and every language of their own country men and so far as language of communication is concerned in the past 6 years, situation has improved!!

Do stay in touch with your homeland always even if it is practically difficult to visit here physically.

WELCOME BACK, WELCOME TO INDIA

You know, this question reminds me of a very famous saying, which I used to hear quite often earlier .

English, born in England, Spread in India and died in America.

Indians do speak better English. And if you are worried whether it is good English compared to Vadodara, I can say, it is much better and gramatically correct down south, not so good in north. But better than American English any way, any day.

Have a great stay in India.

Cheers

I've never been to the specific cities that you mentioned; however, I had no problem finding English speakers in northern India.

Have fun!
