I am considering a one year program at a community college. I am nearly 40 and trying to get back into the working world.....

Yes! I became an LPN ( I live in Mass that's what they are called here ) and was able to buy my own house as a single parent. I don't know where you live, but here in Mass, most LPNs make for starting pay as a new grad $17/ hour and up- you can make much more than that though. I was eventually able to go back to nursing school and became an RN last year. Nursing is a wonderful lucrative career and I highly recommend it! Please feel free to email me for any more questions!

The Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Handbook says that "Median annual earnings of licensed practical nurses were $33,970 in May 2004."

A lot depends on where you live. But then, higher scale, higher cost of living...so maybe it's all relevant.

they can make between 25K-36K in Texas, you can check CareerBuilder.com or monster.com and search jobs in you area to see how much local employers are offering.
