OK I am so sick of all the education bashing. One person just said that people were too lazy to make an effort to spell correctly and then said there go all those tax dollars down the drain. I agree that a lot of people on here are probably not the most educated and it is obvious that a lot of them are just kids but come on! It isn't always the fault of education or the educators. True, there are some teachers who should go back to school or at least use the spell checker but in 27 years of teaching I have only seen a handful of teachers who were really not very good. There are people in every walk of life who don't measure up to the highest standards. There are so many philosophies of how to teach, what to teach, when to teach and they change constantly. Teachers only have so much freedom in deciding how or what to teach. Whatever new trend the principal or school board decides is the current best practices, that is what we are expected to do. Every teacher who teaches long enough will see nearly every philosophy disappear and reappear, just often with a new name. And one more thing: You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink. You can force feed information to students but you can't make them retain it.

Unfortunately, in today's electronic world, we've lost the art of proper grammar and spelling. We focus more on whether or not the meaning is clear. If so, then that's all that matters, so forget spelling and grammar.
I say nonsense! Fact is, we look bad and as though we just don't care. Others around the world DO care and find it laughable that Americans cannot spell or use English properly. They learn it and do OK, so why can't Americans?.

My sympathies go out for the English teacher that responded to this question, but it begs another question -- how were teachers 30+ years ago able to keep the illiteracy rate down? I don't expect much on a computer blog, but when even newspapers or people that get paid for making signs can't get it right, it's really embarrassing. It's probably something as simple as people reading less and watching more TV. Book?? Whazzat?

THANK THE OVER PAID, WHINING, CRY BABY PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHERS FOR THIS. They received full time pay for part time work. They are off June, July, and August, go back to "work" in Sept. and start burning up their vacation days, paid sick days, and then when those are used up start crying that they are underpaid, overworked, and their class sizes are too large and they need more money and more benefits, which the Democrats gladly give them because the teachers Unions have them in their pockets.

I know I have had the same problem. Maybe people are just too lazy to spell and write better. There goes all of those tax dollars down the drain again.

Actually, yes. The only time in school I recall learning grammar was in 2nd and 7th grade. We only had spelling k-5 and those were words that were just "fun words", never words like receive instead of recieve.

you're so suitable and it pleases me to understand you're 17 and in touch. My puppy hate is the lack of human beings to place in writing contractions. I see 'your' particularly of 'you're' so oftentimes those days it amazes me. It infuriates me as quickly as I see it in merchandising (that's undesirable adequate) however the worst occasion i've got seen replace into in a birthday card! Then, of direction, we've 'their' particularly of 'there' or 'they are'. My different puppy hate is using the expression 'youse'!!!! For heaven sake! The plural of you is YOU! want i circulate on...? i could additionally love somebody to describe to me the rising style to confuse the words 'weary' with 'careful' and 'then' with 'than'. as an occasion, "i'm weary of employing that elevate, it broke down the day gone by" and he or she replace into older then her sister". What? how in the international are you able to confuse those meanings and usages? It drives me insane. How can we are looking forward to our infants to understand the thank you to construct a sentence whilst their instructors don't have a sturdy command of their very own language? immediately's instructors come from a technology who weren't taught to spell, use punctuation or build a sentence and yet they are given the duty of training destiny generations. they are ill-geared up for the activity yet coaching departments look unwilling to do something approximately it. mum and dad, bigger coaching government and employers have been calling for replace for some years without reaction. it's time for replace yet who will make that alter? regrettably i don't have the respond. I wish I did.

Thanks to those little ones with their misinterpretation and miscommunication and communication failures that attracted attention.
Without them would not have known they were having problems with communication break-down out there on planet earth.
Why not try to reach out and extend them a helping hand in overcoming that problems for the good of mankind on planet earth.
