He can have a stellar career and even outshine his father, but it is up to the public and the media to determine whether he is out from under the shadow of Dale Sr.

In his own way he already has. They have called him the face of NASCAR, he is not the typical driver by any means. I don't think Dale Jr would ever want to step completely out of that shadow. He loved his dad and was proud of him. Yes, it's hard to live in a shadow that big but Dale Jr is doing a wonderful job and this year I think he has a chance to win the championship. He has proven to me as well as to others that he is an excellent driver and has great potential.

For the most part, I think he has. There are still some references between the two, but as time goes by that gets less and less. Jr is leading his life the way he sees fit. He really is out there to have a good time. While doing that, he does want to win the Championship.

Look at his excitement when he wins races? The guy is fun to watch. It is too bad the media wants to make more out of him than he really is.

In my own personal opinion he has already. I wasn't a Dale, Sr. fan, I am a Jr. fan though, purely because he's proved himself to me watching him weekly behind that wheel. He's trying his best and he's a GREAT driver. He is a son of legend, but he's also a legend in his own right. There will always be comparisons, I don't see that as being in his father's shadow. I feel it is an honor to them both the comparisons.

I think Dale Jr. has already started too...I mean yeah people still compare him to the late and great Dale Sr. but Jr. is his own person-And he races and lives in his own style and way...Not Daddy's!

In my opinion he's not in his dad's shadow. Their racing types are totally different. Sr. had no problem getting you out of his way but Jr., if he bumps you, he goes out of his way to apologize for it. To me he's the Son of the Intimidator, not in his shadow. To be his shadow he would have to be "in the image" but I dunno, I've watched Dale Sr. since I was a little girl and I've followed junebug just as close and he does not race at all like his father, just bears the last name.

No! No matter what he will always be Earnhardt Jr.!

Even if (since he has shown amazing improvements this year) he wins some championships, he will still not race like his father! Senior was known as the Intimidator and that he was, Jr. does not race like this...however he is still Earnhardt Jr. and by many will always be expected to race like his daddy!

I think he already has. He is a very respected person and driver. The longer he races the more he is becoming his own person but he will always be compared to Sr. but other drivers are too. He has already accomplished things at a younger age than his dad did.

Absolutely not, sr. is a legend and jr. unfortunately will always be in the shadow.(which REALLY sucks!)
