I'm not sure what you mean by 'restored'.

I tried removing wallpaper from masonite once....only once.

It left the masonite torn and wet and what a mess.

After it dried, I troweled on a coat of spackle, let it dry, sanded and kept repeating allowing each application to dry before putting on the next until it was as smooth as I could get it. When all layers are thoroughly dry, apply a coat of stain blocking primer. Don't use alcohol base, use latex base. Allow to dry and apply paint.

Mine turned out great, no one ever notices it.

prime, skim coat, sand, prime, paint.
