So i just bought a new hard drive and i wanna take out the old one but how do i take all the data from the old one and put it on the new one, before i put it in.

you need a flash drive the same size of your old hard drive..send the info to the flash drive and back to the hard drive after you change..otherwise you would need to save everything to a network drive..

Use an external hard drive case, and place your new drive in it first. Then copy all your files.

They're really cheap these days (about $10-$30).

Make sure you know the size of one of your disks (2.5 in vs. 3.5 in)

With a laptop you're going to need an external drive case to hook the new drive to your laptop, most likely via the USB port, to copy the laptop's drive.

Also you can NOT simply file copy from your laptop to the new drive and expect the new drive to boot. You will need a "true Copy \ Drive Clone" program such as Acronis. I have use this prg many times as well as many of mine friends and it has worked FLAWLESSLY EVERY TIME.

yup hello kitty is right you need to get a usb hard disk case be sure get the case for a 2.5. also the old notebooks (2001 and below but not all) cannot power the usb hd
