I was about 26 when I got my first (and last) credit card.
The drugstore in the little town I lived in wouldn't sell me an Atari Game System (the first one that could play more than paddle ball) on credit, so I got a Sears card. The limit was $5,000.
I maxed it out in about 6 months, cut it up, payed it off, and haven't had another since. I have, however, had a number of new game systems.

First true credit card I didn't get until I was 19. I had a check card before that and just used that for everything I needed to buy - never really needed the credit card.
Limit was whatever money I could get into my checking account.
