No, your primary doctor can do the routine stuff. You definitely want to research and choose a OB/GYN though, in case any problems arise or if you choose to have a child.

You don't have to necessarily see an OB/GYN. Your regular family doctor can provide the annual tests that you should have.

Most women I know go to a specialist because the experience can be sort of intimidating and it seems less so with a doctor who specializes.

Personally I've found that nothing beats a female OB/GYN if you have questions about anything. Try as they might there are some things that a man just doesn't understand.

For many reasons. To get checked up on and make sure every thing looks and feels normal. Getting checked for breast and ovarian cancer. Getting checked for STD's. Also getting some type of birth control. Pretty much anything going on downstairs you need your OBGYN.

Yup. And I have to go for my first baseline mammogram this year. I think that will make the paps seem like a walk in the park! Eeek.
My doctor's office has a cute poster on the ceiling and comfy socks on the stirrups - I guess to try to make us feel more comfortable?

Only if a woman desires to have healthy reproductive organs. Yes, it's a good idea to go every year for at least a pap smear to ensure there are no infections, etc.

You don't have to go to a OBGYN doctor but you should go to a family doctor each year for an exam and PAP smear..

I strongly suggest going every year, if nothing else for 'preventative' care. Many female cancers if they are caught early are curable! I'm not saying you'll have cancer but in the event you do have a problem (ever), early detection is best. Go, it sucks, but just get it over with. We're all with ya.. it sucks.

Yes! You need to have a pap test every year, especially if you are sexually active. The risks are far greater than the annoyance of going every year.

It's recommended that women do see their OBGYN for the sake of their health. If you never go you can be in danger of ovarian cancer, breast cancer and other sexual or genital disease. Those aren't fun.

If you want to be healthy then go see your Gyno!

When girls reach the age of puberty they should start seeing a gynecologist so they are sure that everything is ok. It is something beneficial for a female to avoid future problems especially with her reproductive system.
