Don't worry about your freshman grades. It is your sophmore+ grades that colleges look at, but freshmen grades are still included in GPA. To get into UC, grades are only 1/3 of the process. They do not look at people that just have strong grades. They look at SAT scores and extra curricular activities. Such as varsity sports, team captain, student government and volunteer work. Essay as well. You have 3 years ahead of you to work on all of this stuff, including grades.

Yes. You are doing very well. As others have said, it's the 2nd-4th yr courses & grades that matter the most.

Check out this site from UC which explains what you need to do for all 4 years. < http://www.ucop.edu/doorways/ > is a great place to start learning about UC admissions.

UC uses its "a-g" list of required courses that you need to take - go to "a-g Course Lists" and enter your high school name to bring up the list of recognized and approved courses you can take. There are math, science, English and elective courses you need to take over the next 3 years.

Take the most challenging courses that you can -- difficult courses matter a lot, and advanced placement classes are highly regarded by UC admissions committees.

And get involved in at least 1, perhaps a couple of extra-curricular activities for the rest of your HS. Develop some leadership skills in something you have a passion for and it will show. If you can find part-time summer jobs and save your earnings for a substantial part of your college fund, that shows initiative.

In your 2nd, you will take the PSAT test.

You might think about getting a workbook from the library or bookstore and take practice tests. The SAT test organization has a website < http://www.collegeboard.com/splash > you can look at. Don't worry about it now, though.

In your jr year, take several SAT practices tests - as you can - to get comfortable with the testing process so you know how to budget your time and understand the testing tips and techniques. You will build up your knowledge base in the next 2 years, so don't worry about that. And consider taking AP tests in your senior for additional 'points' in your admissions.

Meet with your counselor or a teacher you respect and ask them for advice & help. Or contact someone on any UC campus in the admissions department for more info and help.

You CAN do it. Good Luck!

Junior and Senior year is what really counts so don't worry. You're doing fine so far. Plus grades aren't everything. You still have your SAT scores, extra-curricular activities, and the essay. Colleges are really big on extra-curricular activities and the essay. Add those to your grades.

if you can raise the grades in those subjects you are weak in without dropping the other grades to low you have a very good chance of at least being able to take the admissions test for what ever school you want. if they have the courses for whatever job you want the education for. and the room in those classes.

Yes... your grades are decent. Always remember that you still have 3 more years to do even better but I don't think you're bad off at all.

They only count the senior year.
