it is the abbreviation of the"United States of America" and the name of a manufacturing center in Japan. It was named so that they could intimate that it was made in the US of A, when actually it was made in Japan. At one time Made in Japan was a stigma for cheaply/poorly made things. Not so now, many of the products and innovations that impact the world come from there.
